Fall Creek

Fall Creek spans 57 miles beginning in Pendleton, Indiana flowing through Geist Reservoir and Fort Harrison State Park before reaching downtown Indianapolis and flowing into the White River. ROW is focused along Fall Creek from 56th Street to Interstate 65 which includes the Quality of Life Plan communities of the Mid-North and Northeast Corridor.

Green Infrastructure

Hosting workshops like the Crosstown Rain Barrel workshop in partnership with Kheprw Institute is one way this committee is committing itself to water quality solutions.

Rev. Charles Williams Park

Fall Creek is bringing connections and resources to Reverend Charles Williams Park Advisory Board’s efforts to activate and advocate for the construction of this Crosstown destination.

Watershed Management

Partnerships are in the works led by Marion County Soil & Water Conservation District to update Fall Creek’s Watershed Management Plan in order to be eligible for funds to implement green infrastructure solutions.

Neighborhood Connections

Fall Creek continues working to connect anchor institutions with the interests of the diverse neighborhoods along the waterway.

  • This waterway actually crosses the Central Canal before emptying into the White River at 10th Street.
  • Fall Creek is dammed at 2 locations in Marion County, one forming Geist Reservoir and another near Keystone Avenue.
Historical Facts
  • Fall Creek provided water power for early industrial development in Indianapolis.
  • Several historic bridges span Fall Creek including those at College and Central Avenues and at Meridian and Illinois Streets.
  • Fort Harrison State Park was created by President Teddy Roosevelt for honor Indianapolis-native former President Benjamin Harrison. It has served several uses since, including as site of the athlete’s village for the 1987 Pan American Games.
Community Facts
  • The Millersville area along Fall Creek boasts a nature preserve and large sculpture, an oasis right in the middle of commercial development.
  • Crosstown neighborhood hosts The City League‘s annual basketball tournament, bringing quality basketball, kids activities, and local resources to this community right along Fall Creek.
  • Mapleton-Fall Creek is a vibrant historic area working to lift up all its diverse residents in this waterway neighborhood. Nearby Watson Bird Preserve and the Fall Creek Trail contribute to quality of life.
