This month, ROW celebrates Juliet Port for her expertise, passion, and drive in contributing to a better quality of life along Pleasant Run.
Port is a Fountain Square resident and Licensed Professional Geologist. She has volunteered with the Pleasant Run Committee since its inception in 2012 and has also served on the Prospect Falls and Spruce Bridge destination task forces.
Port initially got involve as an avid cyclist with a passion for greenways, nature, and trails. “I’m an environmental professional and it’s rewarding to volunteer on tangible projects that impact our whole community,” Port said. “We have these new statues at Prospect Falls and Spruce Bridge and it’s a great time for everyone to check out our waterway.”
Recently, Port has helped lead neighbors from Christian Park down to Garfield Park organizing to encourage the City of Indianapolis and developers to rethink the reduction of the City’s Stream Protection Corridor ordinance from 60ft to 20ft at the Community Justice Campus site in Twin Aire. Community members are concerned about the impacts on habitats, water quality, flood control, and quality of life up and down Pleasant Run.
“ROW has served as a platform to connect and develop a strong group of engaged and passionate people.” Port said. “So, here we are, standing up for our waterway and asking for everyone’s support.”
