One of the most important contributions that art makes to everyday life is providing a new way of seeing the familiar. Different angles, compositions, and colors can change the way people view their own environment. Photography literally provides a different lens through which residents can focus on the simultaneous stillness and teeming life along our waterways.

This Spring, one doesn’t need to be a professional to capture unique perspectives of Indy’s natural beauty. The Pogue’s Run Photo Contest spearheaded by Near East Area Renewal (NEAR) through the Reconnecting to Our Waterways’ (ROW) Pogue’s Run Waterway Committee will give anyone interested a chance to try their hand at framing Pogue’s Run Waterway and adjacent green spaces through their own eyes.

Beginning with two free, hands-on learning opportunities, Urban Times readers and their friends and family are invited to submit photos for the chance to win cash prizes and gift cards to local businesses.

July 5th Exhibition and Awards Celebration

A panel of local artists and nonprofit leaders will select and announce the winners of the contest at a free public exhibition and celebration.

Following the exhibition, photos will be shown throughout the month of July at various Near Eastside businesses and the Brookside Family Center. These events are made possible by the generosity of the Indianapolis Greenway Partnership and the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust through its support of ROW.
