October 12th marked the Second Annual Circle City Sweet Potato Festival organized by The RECLAIM Project along the Central Canal in Indy’s Near North West communities with 12 participating culinary arts businesses competing for both a sweet and savory crown. Attendees enjoyed not only amazing food, but live music, games, drum circles, and art-making.
RECLAIM Project founders LaShawnda Crowe Storm and Phyllis Boyd, have both served in ROW’s leadership on the Steering and Central Canal Committees. The RECLAIM Project works block by block to transform blight into beauty and opportunity through the methods of Arts-Based Community Development, Trauma-Informed Community Building, and Healing Historic Harms. Crowe Storm and Boyd’s work near the Central Canal includes painted art sheds (see photo above), urban farms, and intersection murals along the Rader Street Corridor. (Rader St between 29th and Burdsal Pkwy).
Don’t miss next year’s festival in this thriving waterway community and visit the Rader Street Corridor to see The RECLAIM Project’s impact!
