After years of advocacy, community organizing, and continued engagement from ROW and City partners, the effort to restore the historic Daniel B. Luten-designed Nowland Avenue Bridge over Pogue’s Run took a big step forward in moving from concept to design. Last month, key project partners convened on site to discuss design plans for the long-neglected bridge over this Near Eastside waterway.

With community leadership from neighbor-led Pathways Over Pogue’s initiative, design firm RQAW has begun exploratory work to prepare bridge designs alongside the Department of Public Works and Parks Foundation, with financial assistance from Cummins Inc, and  Indy Greenways.

In addition to preserving this century old bridge, it is also a critical link for extension of the Pogue’s Run Trail, a 25-year community aspiration to improve access and connectivity along the Pogue’s Run waterway.
