This month ROW highlights Cummins, Inc, an Indianapolis-based multinational engine manufacturer that has worked on the Near Eastside along Pogue’s Run waterway to improve habitat and quality of life. Alex Miser, Components Communications Manager, serves on the Pogue’s Run Committee and is active in organizing employee volunteer days and funding opportunities along this community waterway.

On September 12th, about 20 Cummins employees enjoyed a bike tour led by Miser to explore the areas where Cummins is working and to see the improvements already accomplished.

On September 26th, Cummins volunteers worked along with ROW partner Indy Land Stewardship as part of Indy Do Day in both Spades and Brookside Parks to remove invasive plant species along Pogue’s Run and plant new native plants that will improve the waterway ecosystem.

As part of a long-term effort in collaboration with resident-led Pathways Over Pogue’s and the Pogue’s Run Committee, Cummins has generously supported Pogue’s Run Trail development and the restoration of a historic Luten-designed Bridge to facilitate further trail construction with $200,000 dollars in crucial funding for these efforts. Thanks to this investment, scoping and design is in progress for the Luten bridge restoration, a big step toward trail completion.

ROW is grateful for Cummins’ dedication to Pogue’s Run and looks forward to continuing to work together to improve quality of life in its surrounding communities!
