There’s no time like the start of the new year to create new habits! By taking a Clear Choices Clean Water Indiana pledge, Jennifer from Speedway has prevented 2,854 billion units of bacteria from developing in our waterways. Patrick of Indianapolis is saving as much as 14,1321 gallons of water per year. You too can make a positive impact on Indy’s waterways by taking a pledge to make small changes in your everyday life.

Clear Choices Clean Water is spearheaded in Indianapolis by ROW partner White River Alliance and is a campaign both increases awareness of water quality and conservation issues, and inspires adults and kids across the state to take individual action.

Pledges can be as simple as turning off the faucet while brushing your teeth, or can be more involved like adopting a storm drain in your neighborhood. Other examples include:

  • Disposing of pet waste to prevent bacteria run-off to waterways.
  • Defrosting food without water by letting it thaw over time and using water from washing produce for plants.
  • Removing invasive species and planting native species in your yard or neighborhood spaces.
  • Replacing harmful chemicals with natural remedies  on lawns and gardens.
  • Installing and using a rain barrel and efficient home appliances.
  • Leaving your leaves on the ground, using them for mulch around trees, or composting for your garden.

If you want to contribute even more, organize friends and family to take pledges or form your own SWAT (Storm Water Action Team)! Big or small, you can do your part to clean and conserve our waterways in 2019.
