Pogue’s Run Trail Update
In late 2021, Mayor Joe Hogsett proposed $25 million dollars be made available to the Department of Public Works (Indy DPW) for trail and greenway projects as a third phase of his Circle City Forward program for investment in municipal assets and neighborhood quality-of-life projects. Indy DPW then identified a list of trail projects from around the county to which funds could be strategically allocated for design consulting, construction contracts, and/or leveraging the money as a match to receive further federal or state grants. The proposal received enthusiastic support from the City-County Council who voted unanimously to approve the spending.
The completion of the Pogue’s Run Trail (from 10th Street/Dorman St to the Pogue’s Run Art and Nature Park) is one such project from the list that will be funded for both design and construction costs. Some design work has already been completed for this project before it was shelved pending funding; Indy DPW expects that this project will resume in its design phase late in 2021. Interested stakeholders and neighbors can watch for an upcoming Indy DPW public open house as design work gets underway, likely in early 2022, in which to view preliminary plans and contribute feedback. As details and project documents are developed, updates will eventually be posted on indy.gov.
