Ecology

Guiding Principle: Promote conditions that improve ecological form and function to support overall waterway health.

All Life Depends on Our Waterway Ecosystems

Water is life and its quality determines the health of our environment and ourselves. Our waterways contain imoprtant plants and animals that perform vital functions throughout our urban landscapes.

The Ecology Element promotes conditions that improve ecological form and function to support overall waterway community health.

ROW’s Ecology Element Committee is focused on establishing and enhancing the resiliency of the ecosystems within and along the waterways and connected neighborhoods with the ultimate goal of improving the physical, chemical, and biological measures of water quality, through engaging residents in waterway stewardship.

Our Initiatives

Illustrated Nature Guide and Journal: This activity book guides users on a journey using the senses of sight, smell, hearing, and touch to explore the urban envronments that include our waterways.

Indy Urban BioBlitz: This exciting group event has volunteers – scientists, families, students, teachers, and other community members – work together to find and identify as many species of plants, animals, microbes, fungi, and other organisms as possible in a short time period.
